what if it does make a difference? What if the complete transformation is what protected your actual selves from damage?

( He's gonna be mostly asleep in the infirmary (injuries: thousands and thousands of small incisions across his body, and run through with some kind of broad blade(?)), hence his ominous lack of response... but he can definitely be pestered whenever he's awake, if desired. Thankfully, he's being well taken care of (also, strapped down). )
