They didn't. Sometimes it's hard to think about. I don't like that memories are all that's left.

Were you two close? It sounded like your sister wasn't much older than you.

She was my role model. I really looked up to her. She always seemed like she had her shit together and I never did. Thought if I could match her standards, my parents would be half of proud of me as they were her.

I was already in college when she went missing, but it felt like I never actually grew up because of it. Never got to see her show me what adulthood is, if that makes any sense.

[ He's just full on drunk rambling now. It hurts more, especially around his birthday. ]

[Oh man. To go missing.... had this guy never gotten any kind of closure? Barrett's no doctor but he could guess why this might still tear up a guy inside.]

Did anyone ever get any leads on what happened to her? Anything at all?

Nothing. At all. They searched for a whole year before they decided to close the case.

[So she still could be out there somewhere. Or she could be dead. Barrett can't imagine how he's still feel if the same had happened to any of his other family members, let alone his sister...]

I'm so sorry.

I know you said it's been a while. But I still can't really guess to how much it hurts to think about.

Do you have anyone you can talk to about it?

Can't be easy, knowing about your own sister. She's so much younger than you. I can't imagine how much that hurt.

Not all that younger. Four years. But it happened a while ago. We got a funeral.

I don't really know how I would feel if I couldn't have said goodbye, though.

Closure, being able to say goodbye - I guess that's all you can really ask for in a situation like that.

Got in the way of a car rolling out of a driveway. She was too little.

Dad said she died before the ambulance made it to the hospital.

I don't think any of us were the same after that. Life keeps happening, just without her. She won't come back. Thinking about that doesn't do any good.

I try to remember the things I loved. But it's hard. We still all miss Lily a lot.

I think there's a special kind of pain only those left behind have. Thanks for opening up about her to me, I'm practically a stranger. but if you ever need anything, I'll do everything I can to help.

I'm sorry you had to spend part of your birthday thinking about that. But I hope it could turn into good thoughts by the end.
