Contact me if you get a message from someone whose username is "dv."

Possibly. Or the identity of someone causing bugs. He goes around messaging people, and some people seem to have been in continued contact. Everyone agrees the bugs are bad, but they go mum when it comes to sharing whatever he's doing behind closed doors.

I get the sense that he picks people to talk to based on who he thinks will keep it a secret.

It probably depends on the person. My impression is that there's threats or promises involved.

It's not an unintelligent thing to do, on dv's part - contacting people who wouldn't share information that might be useful to other users. But it is a little annoying.

This game interacts with your brain directly. Have you ever had a dream that felt so real it woke you up? This game functions on the same principle. By telling your brain certain sensations are real, it will experience them as real.

Turn on your pain censors and do an Area run if you want to try it. You might understand better then.

The perception that something is real is enough to make something real, in certain cases.
